front forks overhaul specialists

Post by Roger.Newell »

I do not have the skills required to overhaul the front telescopic suspension on my 1956 Huntmaster. Does anyone have positive (or negative) experience or recommendations of any UK firms specialising in performing a complete overhaul? I have removed the parts from the bike so I can ship them to the most appropriate firm

If you can remove the fork legs, then you probably do have the required skills to overhaul them.
Apart from normal tools, and a good vice, you will need special tool 61-3005; oil seal holder tool; available from Draganfly.
They are around £60 each, they used to rent tools out; you will need to ask them.
If the fork legs are badly worn, you may need to find someone to repair them, or find a better pair.
The bushes and oil seal were all available for around £60. You will need to check current stock with Draganfly.
Why not treat it as a winter project. Post pictures for our entertainment and ask advice if required.

Hi and welcome.

As Chris said, the forks are very basic and should be within the capability of most riders. The special tool for the seal holders is only required if you wish to retain the original holders, as opposed to replacing them, what condition are yours in?

If you post your location there may well be someone local to you who may be available to help, loan the tool, or do the job for you.

Regards Mick
