1936 LG 250

Post by paul.jameson »

At long last, the LG 250 is almost finished and so should make its booked appearance at the Val Page lineup 1926-66 at the Annual Rally. It has fought long and hard but I think I have it worried now.

It left the factory on 26.11.35 for F. Brookes in Kings Lynn. Remarkably, its current registration was issued on 11th June 1946 in Hampshire so almost certainly it saw war service somewhere or other. The previous owner bought it in 1977 and I have a receipt for "Straightening frame and forks and painting in primer only" from Percival and Webb in Birmingham from that time. The first photo shows it on arrival here so I can be certain that it hasn't run in over half a century. As the bottom of the range machine, it is a rare survivor. Like so many other machines, the previous owner thought to restore it as a Red Hunter rather than as original, hence the change of petrol tank, the red one now being on Mark Colton-Taylor's bike.

I always think that the de-luxe is a classy looking bike. OOOOh spot the barrel fishtails!

He does a nice Job Doesn't he? My first bike to get on the road was a 1936 RH 350. I chucked the head and put a W/NG one on it to have the Valves enclosed and a single Pipe. This didn't Matter in the 50's Bikes were for getting there, and authenticity was not important. Nev

This motorcycle is really great. I don't like motorcycles with small capacity because our country is hilly and I am heavy, but this piece is beautiful. Congratulations
