Inspection Lamp
Hi, can anyone help me with a drawing and/or parts list for the inspection/panel lamp? I have the brass outer section which still attaches to the tank, but I need to know which bulb and whatever else is required to bring it back into commission. The parts lists I have seem to ignor this item for some reason. Any pointers greatly appreciated.

Re: Inspection Lamp
It is possible that there is no parts list for this lamp. It was probably considered to be a part, in its own right. Anyway I've never seen one, but I do have pictures which I hope will be of use to you. I believe that the bulb is a BA15, probably rated at 6 volts, 6 watts.

Hi
The one posted by Chris looks like a Lucas DC40 listed under H49-50 Tank panel and warning lights in the Lucas equipment and parts for motorcycles 36 - 57 available on the Bright Sparks web site:

Re: Inspection Lamp
There are 3 versions of the Lucas DC40 panel lamp, Screwed ring type1931-32, brass spring pin retaining as illustrated by Chris 1933-38 and the Bakalite bayonet fitting version 1939-50. I think the years are right.

Looks like you are missing the internals, i don't think they were available as a spare part when new and certainly not now.

Re: Inspection Lamp
Hi Roger, ok, so unless I can find a second hand complete unit I will need to leave as is.
Re: Inspection Lamp
Hi
The original bulb would have been a 3W bayonet, easy enough to find today, I'm sure Draganfly and any other of the suppliers carry it as stock. The only other component is a spring, which again you can find once you know the OD and approximate length.

Re: Inspection Lamp
Having studied your photos; I believe that it is complete, or nearly so. I can see that the centre contact is not in the correct position, probably because the top of the unit has been pushed in.
It will have to be dismantled in order to repair it, and to solder on new wires.
You mention finding a second hand complete unit. I last saw that unicorn at an auto jumble, several years ago, priced at £480.
I have restored many ancient bike and car electrical parts in the past, including the later bakelite version of this DC40 unit; but I've never come across one of these brass ones needing repair before.
Despite being ancient myself I like to take on new challenges; therefore, if you pay all postage costs, I will attempt a repair for you. If I cannot dismantle it without damaging it,I will leave it alone, although in my experience very little older stuff is non repairable; that is something that is reserved for modern electrical equipment.
Let me know if you are interested in my offer; although I will understand if you are reluctant to send your valuable thing to a complete stranger.
Cheers, Chris.

Thanks John.
