Hi Folks

My current exploration of rear wheel axle issue has revealed another problem, rubber bush’s on both shock absorbers have perished. Is this a ‘buy new shocks’ situation or something I can get a motorcycle engineer to solve ? Sorry for being ‘high maintenance’ at this time.

Hi

Bush 4981-55, see here:

Easily replaced with a long bolt and two appropriately sized sockets

Regards Mick

Suggest that you replace top and bottom bushes in both shocks, looking at those ones.

Little bit of silicone lubricant to help them slide in.

(Washing up liquid will do, but rinse with plenty of water after installation)

Are they the same size top and bottom? and … as it’s the first time I will be trying this.. do you know of a good YouTube video showing how to do it ?

Hi

They are the same size top and bottom. When you get the new bushes find a socket just bigger than the bush OD and a nut and bolt long enough to pass through the socket and bush. Thread the bolt through the bush and socket and tighten the bolt, the bush will be withdrawn into the socket. Reverse the procedure to fit the new bush, a bit of tyre soap or red rubber grease will help the bush slide in.

Well…….As suggested I was going to put back together and found the thread damaged on part ‘ SWINGING ARM STUB AXLE (4232-56)’ (see photo) so have ordered another one and am waiting for delivery to check if that solves the issue 🤪
