Wanted - 1928 Ariel Magneto Platform

Post by tony.barnett »

Does anyone have a useable magneto platform/rear engine plate for a 1928 Ariel? I think both SV and OHV are the same. Its part no A6/181, shown in the top LH corner of the attached file.

For info - earlier and later platforms are different than the 28 one.

The platform on the 1929 is moved 1/16 to the left. Drawing available, could be made easily or I may have a spare 1929-30 version spare.

Thanks Roger - if I can't find a 28 platform then I will make one. I have what I think is a 29 platform already - with modifications it just about works on my 28, but its not ideal.

Looking at the two rear engine plates on the parts list in my first post - it looks like the engine plate section is identical (the mag platform side has the big hole for the rear brake tube for example) - I have a brake side plate spare - I could adapt that with a suitably sized mag platform welded on the top. But I'll wait to see what turns up first.

The only difference between the left and right plates seems to be a triangular hole on the right instead of a brake pedal tube of the left. There is a note on the 1928 left drawing to say that it is the same for 1931 except that the brake tube is not used. Again a note on the right drawing only mentions the slight movement of the mag platform as a difference to 1929

If needed I can make a tracing with some measurements added from a '28 right hand side plate.

That would be helpful Vincent. I have a brake side rear engine plate, so the actual engine plate dimensions I'm Ok with, but the dimensions of the magneto platform would be very useful.

Thanks
