Hi all,
My original thread was initially placed in the Classifieds “For sale / wanted - parts” section but due to responses and information shared, I have been asked to start new thread in “Members bike” section.
I am currently rebuilding my 56 HS MK1 after track use and wanted to try and source some original parts which didn’t come with the bike when I bought it from John Budgen some 25 years ago. I did make copy parts but my aim is to get her back to original
Ideally I would be after:
RHS Air cleaner.
LHS Oil Tank.
GB 45 gearbox or case.
MK1 Footrests
Rear Brake lever.
Any assistance or information most welcome.
Many thanks,
Chris
Some photos after 1st rebuild, on track and most recently before current strip down.

Cool project and great photos. Very few Ariels get ridden that hard! Thanks for sharing the history.

Thanks SEDoan,
Was reading your posts on your rebuild with interest, a fantastic job with an incredible level of skill - amazing stuff!!
A couple more pics, they are scarce however as my GF for some reason didn’t enjoy standing in muddy fields!?

Wow!
you must be one of the last to do -or did- this with a HS !
Respect !!

Hello Chris,
This FWH rear brake pedal is surplus to me, still needed ?
possibly I also have that 'L' shaped crossover swivel link....if I can find it...

trying to find that swivel piece produced something else that might interest you, I knew I had it but not where
a 'Harold Lines' rear brake pedal, specifically made for the late Ariel scramblers .
Leg runs over the footrest instead of under.
Looked if I could find anything on Harold Lines and found this article from November 2023 :
https://mxvintage.be/harold-lines-was-e ... continent/
it even mentiones the 'over the footrest' brake pedal !
in Dutch.
And a very recent article (Jan. '25) on HS models :

A great story in those two links.
You know, I had not heard of Harold Lines, until today. He seems 'unknown' in the UK.
Thanks for posting Vincent.

I knew him as an Ariel dealer as he was not far from my first shop in London, although his shop closed before I arrived there. I knew of him because we had a lot of NOS parts with his labels on but they came to us via another dealer.
I think you will find that the brake pedal is standard fitment to HS, although it may have been Harold's idea.

The 'Harold Lines brakepedal' was -I think- a option, possibly by the factory or to be had directly from him ?
So thats open for discussion !
Most period and recent pictures show the underslung pedal.
But here is one nicely restored HS with the Harold Lines pedal for sale at Mecum in 2017
Magdyno on a scrambler? lower chain guard from a HWH model (wich is a very good idea) and earlier type front mudguard stays (?)
nice view on that oil tank cap !

The pedal for the MKI is listed with a different number to the other models. Ben Mitchell who wrote the definitive article on the HS models says that the MKI had the over footrest pedal. It was published in Cheval some time in 2024.
