1946 Ariel NG

Post by Akumar »

Dear fellow enthusiasts,

This 1946 NG was for sale in USA a couple of weeks ago. The old UK registration number with bike was 462 UXE. I added a photo.

Hmmm
DVLA says:
- date of first reg Oct 2004
- last V5C (registration doc) Nov 2004
- export marker 'yes'

According to Kithead Trust, (U)XE was a Luton registration number from 1964

So to me it has the appearance of something revived in 2004 with an age-related reg. no. but I thought they only took those numbers from sequences that had never been allocated. :?

UXE xxx was first used in October 1957 and the reverse of xxx UXE was never issued, so it would be from previously un-issued series. According to 'Where's it from, when was it issued' by the late Noel Woodall. Riveting night time reading. Engine and frame numbers would be interesting and enable correct identification.

Hi Roger and Simon,

The seller informs that it was imported from UK about 18 years ago. The frame is AP 3618 and engine is BK 4894. Here is a better photo.

I thought it looked like a high clearance frame, i.e. originally intended for W/NG but used on many 1946 350s and denoted by an AP prefix instead of the usual BP for 1946-48. The numbers do not match, original frame for the engine was BP 6928 and the original engine for this frame was BK 2741, all of these numbers belong to 1946 NG models.
Previous history - a Derek Moore of Delaware USA is listed in 2004 and 05 and an SJ Whale of Chipping Norton, Gloucestershire in October 1994 when registration 95 GMO is given, which is a Berkshire number again from a previously un-issued series.
