NG350 1946 4sale by 'We sell classic bikes'

A very good looking 1945 NG for a nice price, only in the minor details can it be faulted.
This NG shows those small details that identifies it as a early post war model.
WNG toolbox knob, WNG front hub with blanked off speedometer drive hole.(connection on CP could do with some TLC)
Smaller WD type Lucas headlamp.
only.......that Altette should really be up front and not hanging from the seat post as it will fracture that by vibration making for a 'interesting' ride when that happens

Info shows that in these troubled days classic bikes can be swopped for Gold, the eternal safe heaven.
Afterall, when things go really nasty you won't even be able to swop a loaf of bread for your Ariel !

The numbers denote a late 1945 (1946 model) with AP high clearance frame. As Vincent says a very original machine with only a couple of lost points and a little too shiny! Interestingly, for Vincent and me anyway, is that works drawings show the horn in this position at this time, did they go back to the front later?

In July 1945 factory publicity showed the horn at the front of the engine, but these were likely pre-war pictures as evidenced by the 1939-40 tail light. Similarly the 1946 brochure shows the same but also has the 1939-40 tail light. From 1947 onwards the horn is clearly round the side in all catalogues and brochures.

Ah! thats new to me (self acclaimed Altette basher ) .
I thought all girder forked Ariels had by definition the horn up front.
Does your drawing show if it hangs from the seat bracket or the guard bracket hole ?

edit. yes it does hang from the seat bracket, hmmmmmm odd...

That exhaust looks like it got very hot, timing or weak mixture? I wonder how it idles as the adjustment screw is missing from the carb body? Comparing with my slightly later rigid framed bike, the lower rear chain guard is at a completely different angle, were they like this earlier?

I hadn't noticed the angle of the chainguard before, that didn't change from 1933 onwards for rigid frames. W/NG frames use a different top guard but not a different lower and on checking drawings this is the correct angle when fitted to a W/NG, on std frame the guard only slopes down slightly.
Looks like no miles since restoration and only run long enough to blue the pipe due to missing mixture screw, well spotted Paul. No registration....

Roger, Question, the WNG frames are based on the prewar ISDT Ariels.
Does this mean that those few build prewar ISDT models already had their own 'high clearance' frame?
Where those frames a small production 'one off' ?
The difference not only sits in the lower tubes towards the rear fork but in more places the WNG frame is different from the standard frame.
Did the factory build a special jig already prewar for those frames? and did they took it for granted that a VH engine did not easely fit in such a frame?
