Hello!
I have a problem with my Ariel KHA 500 Dynamo. Maybe someone can help me. The Lucas Dynamo E3L commutator coils are connected with each other coils when i measure with the multimeter. Is that correct or is there a short circuit in the winding?

The commutator segments should all be electrically connected but isolated
from the body of the armature. The resistance of the coils is low and difficult
to distinguish from a short circuit without specialist equipment. Indeed Lucas
recommended testing armatures by substitution.

What is wrong with your charging circuit?

There is a good section on this forum about testing dynamos which is well
worth reading.

The KHA is an engine I've admired for a long time and never managed to own.
How do you get on with it?

Good morning from Austria,
the E3L Dynamo does not provide any voltage, only approx. 0.15 volts. Now i dismantled it and saw that the commutator gaps are full with dust... Brushes are in a good condition.
I cleaned the commutator and now I will test the dynamo with your instructions that you sent me.
The KHA ist my first vintage motorcycle, for me it's very good... I bought it in the Netherlands.
Sorry for my bad English, i have to usw the Google translate mostly
