I've just read on the VMCC that Jim passed away recently.
A long time member of the Ariel club and ex factory worker.a font of knowledge.
He will be sadly missed

That's a great loss.

I used to deal with Jim when he was the Singles Spares (or was it ALL spares) officer back in the late 60s/ early 70s. A great guy and an asset to the Club.

He had an interesting and rewarding life and lived to a good age - so we shouldn't feel too bad about it. Sorry to see him go, though.

Jim wasn't everybodies cup of tea but I never had a problem with him. He would go on a bit but a nice bloke and pretty knowledgable. I am pretty sure he was never a spares organiser but he was public relations officer 1969-71 and technical advisor in 1971. He was however the Ariel marque specialist for the VMCC since god was a lad and I believe a director at VMCC. We will always be grateful to him for taping an interview with Edward Turner and Val Page. He would fail to renew on a regular basis and sometimes pay twice in one year! Perhaps someone who knows him better will do an obit for the mag/

Always enjoyed reading what Jim wrote in Cheval - opinions and all. He did a great job for us and I hope Jim's family and friends take some comfort in the condolences and warm wishes for them from people like me that never really knew Jim.

RIP Jim. Was talking to him a while ago about Fleet bicycles and sent him some pdfs of catalogues. He will be missed.

Really ?? I bought a new piston for my 'VB' from him in 1970/71 and I think I had a few small parts for my Square Four as well.

Our man got around . . . . Jim in 1986.

He was credited with being one of the "Panel of Experts" in the mag.


(Before anyone asks - I found this mag in a heap that was given to me by a neighbour . . Pages 31 to 46 are missing (i.e. the good bits) ).

Jim certainly sold and traded in parts but his main business was arranging shipping of bikes overseas as in UK Motorcycle Exports, I think he also sold bikes and may have had an agency at one time.

Here's a photo of Jim Lee that I took at Mallory Bike bonanza in 2016 when I was in attendance Parade riding two Sports Arrows, Jim is on the left and on the right is Ian Clarke who was a good friend of Herman Meier for many years right up to the time of his passing. We all sat down together at the back of the Bedford chatting about all things Ariel, well, I was mainly listening in awe to these great guys chatting away about Ariels. Jess
