Rod bolts

Greetings and Happy new year from Manitoba in winter. I am about to assemble my Mk2 Square 4 engine. I have reconditioned the original rods but was unable to find a full set of new bolts. Does anyone have the exact length of the original bolts? I want to measure and check the originals have not stretched. The nominal length appears to be 2.250” with some variation. Unless of course someone has 6 new bolts stashed that they are willing to part with? Any assistance appreciated. Thanks.

I would suggest a careful visual inspection for stretched /deformed threads, and if they look OK ,the get the bolts magnafluxed,....be a good idea to have the rods crack tested too....Im thinking non magnetic alloy material can be crack tested by running a current thru ,and testing for discontinuities in the magnetic field ,similar to magnetic materials like the rod bolts......If not ,then crack testing will be penetrant & dye check.....better than nothing.

Thanks, I had already crack checked ( i own a commercial machine shop so no problem to magnaflux the rods and bolts) however there is a variation of up to 0.010” in the lengths of the 8 bolts, the longest being the 2 new bolts, so nothing to use as a comparison. I am at the point where it all looks good, so I think I am comfortable to assemble.

Hi Brian - Happy New Year to you also. Suggest that Bruce Longman (Club Spares) may be able to supply you with new set of bolts...
Cheers, John
