Hi Adrie, Interesting, when checked over by Mr. Maughan last week, all was fine.
You know otherwise ???

Note the difference between a original BS crankcase and new one.
The boss for the gearchange plate (that hangs horizontal above the cluster) is much more substantial.
A known weak point in the original engine.
Also the webbing around the mainbearing is gone, so the crankcase is notably heavier, magnesium ones are available but at a price.......

It had a differend feel to it but this is much stronger, there where 2 week points; if in an accident the gearchange lever hit something than that arrow part broke out of the crankcase and the 2 part rod broke partly wich distroied the gearbox, even hard shifting could do this.

Steve Clarke asked about the mod I made to make removal of the dualseat easier, here a explanation with some pictures.
(I vaguely remember to have mailed this before, but perhaps not on this forum?)

Pic 1. shows bridge piece on frame , left hand bolt is welded to bridge and sticks into toolbox, right hand one ends just above oiltank.
this bridge stays fixed to the frame, and second bit of angle iron fits into it.

Pic 2. shows the other bridge piece attached to the underside of the seat, it has two horizontally pegs pointing to the front of the bike.
these pegs fall into corresponding holes in the bridge piece on the frame.

Pic 3. shows them near eachother, the red arrows give the direction they move into eachother.

Pic 4. shows them together, it's best to use angle iron that has a 90 degree inside, most angle irons have a radius on the inside, it's possible to use that type but you have to give the outer angle on the other bit a curve then (ehhhhh obvious ???)
Hope this explaines it a bit !
The seat has raised a small amout because of the thickness of the two angle irons on eachother, therefore I made two small 'blocks' at the rear mounting points to have the plot level again.
In my case I had the make these blocks off-set as the seatbase holes did not line up with the frame points.
Seat is hold by two M8 bolts at the rear, undo these and slide the seat about 2cm back and it comes of.
Oh bytheway.....it was alot of work!
regards , Vincent

after showing us the beefed up Vincent crankcases are you going to show us a 102mm stroked crank, bigger barrels for 1360cc and topped off with a set of Terry Prince heads. If not, and you only wanted 1000cc then surely a square 4 would be the bike a gentleman would choose.

I've just looked at the Terry Prince website and although I did that before I missed the possibility that one could fit standard 500cc top end conversions.
As I will / want to fit the motor in standard Vincent rolling gear I dont think it's wise to go for 1200cc or even more.
That's something for the Egli type frame.
But the 500cc top end conversions do look like the perfect fitment if I go 'all new' as I am -trying- now.
So last week I've send a e-mail to his Swiss importer but no answer yet.

On the HS front: yesterday I collected my new license plate for it and went for the first real & legal test ride.
It has some poke !! I am going to change the engine sprocket two teeth down.
It now has the hooligan Pete Kemp version wich I think is to harsh on a fresh engine.
But once I get it past all clutch slip it really flies ! well.....compared to my - now very humble- NG....
I fitted a different airfilter with a adapter to get it on the mouth of the monobloc (wich is actually for a rubber, it has no thread)

Vincent
the Terry Prince heads are very nice and incorporate large squish areas. The price is not bad either considering the Vincent tag which is an automatic 100% price increase on standard. I think the heads are cast by Harrops and they are not cheap to deal with.
Incidentally I have heard that Clive Harrop has developed a 4 valve head for our VHs. I have been afraid to ask the price as I know Clive Harrop sells beefed up VH crankcases at $2000aus and stroked 35mm big end cranks at $2000. I will stick to my old stuff.
I tried a 24 tooth sprocket on the VH many years ago and soon gave up on the idea. I normally run 22 or 23 tooth but mostly 23 on a VH.
I hope you enjoy the HS.
