How did you decide that this stb axle is worn?
Am I missing something?

Take 2.
I just read the shock absorber thread and you identified the thread is damaged.
I can see that now.

Hi
I'm not so sure that stub axle is wrong, the thread has been dressed back to allow the spindle to feed in and engage more easily I think, mine is the same.
Regards Mick

Re: Tips regarding rear wheel removal 1956 NH
Does the NDS axle thread smoothly into the DS stub axle?
Re: Tips regarding rear wheel removal 1956 NH
Ahh this is where I have complicated matters, I purchased a new stainless steel NDS to match the other parts that were replaced on the bike by the previous owner, and the stainless one does not locate in the stub. I have possibly (very likely) jumped to the wrong conclusion seeing the thread ‘wear’ so next task is to go back to original parts and try again… I am guessing it’s slightly tiresome for you experienced folk, but I am learning so much in this ‘quest’ so I do thank you all. I work in the mental health arena, and having a focus like this is an excellent distraction from the day job.Julian Murphy wrote: Wed May 07, 2025 9:03 am Does the NDS axle thread smoothly into the DS stub axle?

Hi
Your immediate problem is that the bearing appears to be moving relative to the stub axle. To diagnose this further, fit the stub axle assy to the PRF with the original nut and washer, nip up the nut. Has the movement of the sprocket gone / been much reduced?
This is the first thing you should do and then report back. Your well intentioned, (but scattergun approach), is leading you down the wrong rabbit holes

Re: Tips regarding rear wheel removal 1956 NH
my shed floor is about 6" off the ground so i just position bike with back wheel hanging out past the edge of the doorway and its easy to drop the wheel out without removing anything of the mudguard etc .
in the old days you could have simply had the back wheel over the deg of the kerb of the pavement , but maybe too busy these days to do that lol
cheers , ian

Hi Julian
Thank you for your support… Wallace is still off of the road, two reasons… I bashed my knee and waiting for improvement before kicking over and waiting for bolts to replace screws on the chain case. I have put the axle/wheel back together using new parts and the movement appears to be gone so hopefully back on Spanners next weekend to get on the road (knee permitting)
