Thanks Bob ! come on! You can do it !!

But.....Today I've run into a problem with the decals for the tank.
I have two sets of waterslide decals for HS/HT bought from the club with a few years in between.
Actually, I bought the second set because I had forgotten I already had a set....
The one I tried today is like the one on the right hand, this one did not wanted to go 'around' the curve of the tankside.
It just sat there like a plank, no matter how I patted it, the folds just kept on popping up..
I used at first luke warm water, then did it again with slightly warmer water as I thought it would make the decal go softer, but none of that.
I dont think the tankside is any more curved then a normal Ariel tank so why wont it go ?
Main difference between the two sets is that one set came with a protective paper over the transfer.
The one with the protective paper looks like it's a tiny bit thinner, anybody having a clue to what to do ?

Hmmmm, it is not going very well this transfer sticking.
Messed up two of them.
With one of the mishaps I tried the idea of cutting it like a pie 8 times towards the centre but not all the way.
This worked more or less, the less part is that now the edges -ofcourse!- are on eachother and this raise is visible.

Something else, the decals I have are Red/Gold/Black but in the list of Jerry and at Drags it gives a Yellow/Silver/Black one as being correct for a HS.
The RGB one being a aftermarket by Wassell, is that so ?

I have never applied these types of transfers before but a friend printed his own, would this work? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8aVS3vMJu0

Thanks Steve, I looked at some of the youtube films, Hmmmm, beyond me, this self printing

But I just noticed that there is a sticker (vinyl) version of the HT/HS decal available from Jerry, number TR066.
There's no image on the club spares page but in the pricelist it is mentioned.
Maybe that's the solution as this waterslide stuff is only for almost flat or curved in one direction applications....

Hi Vincent,
With your art skills, you probably have several awesome ideas, but have you thought about making a metal or plastic badge or a plate for the sticker, that is shaped to your tank?
If it is of any use, there is a small CNC mill at my local school, which I can access, and which might mill out the rear of a badge, based on the transfer. I'm not flash at using it, but could ask for help. It would need a computer drawing.
We also have a number of small 3d printers.

Hello Brenton, Thanks for this constructive thinking! and also for the offer to get CNC and 3D in the game.
I did cross my mind to make a 'in between' and use a standard round plastic Ariel badge on the tank.
But my mind set is still very much in the handcraft mode....so I thought about building up a circulair ring (with Plasticine) on the side of the tank to get a 'mould' for casting a disc from Polyurethane.
I've used that stuff many times for making my models for glass casting. Look at http://www.smooth-on.com/ wonderfull stuff.
But I came to the conclusion that my original aim was to have the tank sides smooth with nothing sticking out.
So I am eagerly waiting for the two vinyl stickers that Jerry (regardless of his illness) has posted to me.
I'd like to have it ready by next week thursday as the HS will go on my stand at Holland's main motorcycle event.
If it's not ready the original tank has to go on the HS.

This morning the vinyl decals arrived and I stuck them on.
Very sticky these decals, only one change.
I made up a guide from paper to make sure I get them on both sides on same position.
Used a paint stripper gun (from a certain distance...) to warm up tank & decal.
This sticker also wants to make folds at the edge but by gradually pushing from the middle it worked o.k.

I've 'scotcht' the surface to give the two pack clear better grip, that's why it's not so glossy now.
Now off to the sprayer, hopefully he can get it done before next week thursday....
