That thrust washer with the tag is inside next to the clutch centre. The plain one is outside next to the gearbox.
For a shim to work in this instance it would have to have an inner dia greater than the needle roller bearing and that would bring the problem of keeping it located there whilst assembling as it could. drop out of place. I cannot see that as an option.
Increasing the thickness of the thrust washer only results in bringing the whole assemble across, it does not take up the slack.

Hi.
I eliminated the clutch basket play by replacing the needle bearing with a round of calibrated rollers.
I have almost zeroed the play and the basket no longer touches the primary housing.
I hope this is helpful.

A quick and rather primitive measure of clutch wheel and needle cage suggests
that the needle cage is 1"1/8 long with the clutch wheel being a few thou wider.

I can see that you have replaced the needles with a full pack of rollers/needles but how have you limited the chainwheel end play.
All I can see is the rollers on which the chainwheel will still slide uncontrollably....

Those measurements are the same as mine.
If and when the chainwheel is aligned exactly with the needle roller there is no contact with the case.
The problem is that the chainwheel will slide over the needle roller and over the boss that retains the cage as they are the same diameter.
From measuring the clearances it appears to me that the plain thrust washer should be about 5mm thick or the chainwheel width should be that much wider?

The chainwheel shouldn't be able to overrun the cage. The tabwasher at the clutch side stops it fouling the
clutch centre and there should be another washer - like the tabwasher but without the tab - in the gearbox
side of the cage. Somewhere, in the Members' Only Document repository under Burman which may in
turn be under Miscellaneous , I've seen a drawing of the bearing, clutch centre, chainwheel and washers.
I'll have a look this evening.

Hi,
I misspoke, I did not mount bearing rollers but a double row of dowel pins that have a slightly larger diameter (2.51mm) and offer a larger bearing surface for the clutch wheel, I almost zeroed out the radial play that was causing the clutch basket to wobble, sending it touching the primary housing.
Chain alignment and axial play were controlled by building trhust washers of appropriate thickness.
I have already covered about 12,000 km without any problems, partly because checking the play and alignments allowed me to fit a reinforced chain.

I can't find the clutch drawing I was looking for but Chris's drawing shows all the details with the
only missing part being the adapter which fits onto the mainshaft 3766-52.
