I am rebuilding a basket case arrow, it is the first time I have ever attempted anything like this. I have been following this thread with interest. I am about to start the electrics and I am thinking about making the electrics 12 Volt and points to begin with as I wold not feel confident using the electronic ignition until I have heard it run. Do any of you see any problems I may have?

12 volt conversion is relatively easy.A reconnect of the alternator wiring. (No need to change the alt).12 volt coils and bulbs. Solid state regulator instead of the rectifier. The 6volt horn will just squeal an octave higher. If you WERE to convert to electronic ignition at the same time you could save the cost of the 12 volt coil by wiring the 2 6volts in series (6 + 6 =12). Works with Pazon that way and any others with a wasted spark system. Been running this system for 6 years on Delilah with no problems. Dont forget to use reistor plug caps with any sort of transistorised system and silicone plug leads (belt and braces)Nearly forgot, you will need a 12 volt battery too. They do exist to fit the somewhat limited space in the carrier. I use a maintainance free gel battery. Give us a shout if you want the number.Consider also conversion to negative earth as this might give you a wider choice of ignition systems..

From my own experience with the Draganfly electronic ignition I fitted it to my current Arrow but starting hot or cold was not brilliant. It really needs a 12volt system. I think Draganfly would confirm 12volt is best. I have reinstalled the points and twin coils, still with 6volts and starting and running is very good. I will fit the electronic ignition to my current project which will have a 12volt system.

Probably irrelevant but I've found my Arrow needs lots more flooding than the big 4 stroke singles and twins I'm more used to, especially in this relatively cold weather. I have to hold the tickler down till fuel flows out of it - then, with the strangler closed and a couple of priming kicks it will start straight up.

Standard points ignition and 6 volt.

I have been told by someone much more experienced than me, that it is advisable to always use new petrol. Also on 6v system remove suppressor caps. When having problems starting every little helps. Worth a try. Using new petrol definitely helps.

This afternoon I refitted the points. The bike now starts quite easily but with a lot of back firing. Presumably that means the timing is not quite right, which maybe down to the points being old. I need to find out why? I am now concluding the Electronic ignition does not work properly..

Well done. At least you've got it running, keep in mind it might be the timing out or a condenser not working properly. Roger
