I thought folks might be interested to know what happened to this bike.

It was bought by a friend of my next door neighbour and was collected on Sunday. On Monday it was checked over and given a short run before going 'home' to Ayrshire. For a while it was in my yard ;) .

The new owner (Alastair) on left, watching my neighbour (Mike) checking the gearbox oil level.

Its in good order, with the few niggles already mentioned, and sounds sweet.

Alastair comparing my 'VH' (centre of picture) with his 'NH'. My BMWs are also out in the sun.

A few shots "for the record":

After I topped-up the oil tank with straight-50 Alastair set off for the 100-mile run to Prestwick, accompanied by Mike on his Honda NTV. I haven't heard how they got on but the bike certainly sounded sweet.

I look forward to seeing "Alastair Bruce" appearing as out newest member 8-) .

[quote="jj.palmer"]plus mine has a Monobloc carburrettor inplace of the one in the photo, [/quote
I think the monoblok came in 1955 on a 350.

We had a chat about that. The seller claimed it was original, but we don't believe that - my 1953 Square Four had a chronometric and I've never seen anything like it on an Ariel (it looks as though it belongs on a 'James' or a 'Fanny-B' :? ). The odometer shows 43,000 miles which doesn't mean its been on the Ariel for that distance.

I don't know how accurate it is, I'll e-mail Alastair and ask - in case he and Mike compared speedo readings on the way West.

I've given Alastair a strong 'pitch' about joining the Club ;) .

Hi,
Andrie, although my bike was first registered in 1954 it states on the Ariel Clubs certification letter that "Although made in late 1954, 26th October, this is an early 1955 model", so you are correct it was made to the 1955 specification.

We are not connecting, I don´t see any 1955 part.

Adrie, I wrote with regard to my own bike, "Although made in late 1954, 26th October, this is an early 1955 model" meaning that it was made in late 1954 but to the 1955 specification for the 1955 sales market and therefore was fitted with a monobloc carburettor.
Due to manufacturing lead times when a change to specification is introduced there may be a varience between dates and specification.

John Palmer.
