Just one final question: I don't have a post drill. Can the enlargement of the hole be safely done with an ordinary bench-mounted drill press? Running at very slow speed, of course.

Hi Hugh, yes. Just mark the drill bit. I use masking tape.

At last I've received the parts from Drags. I'm on the other side of the world, so it does take time.

I'm now ready to do the modification to the oil pump. Can someone advise on the fitting of the plug. Is it just tapped into the hole, or does it need to be held in place with Loctite or something? Just want to be sure.

Nothing special. Just tap it in.

Thanks, Brenton. I find that the plug is an easy, almost loose, fit in the hole and is pushed out again by the spring. Also, the pliug does not go all the way down into the hole and is stopped by the shoulder about 1/4" down. Tapping doesn't get it right down. I'm reluctant to hammer it really hard in case I break something. When the plug stops at the shoulder, the two projections on top of it are very slightly proud of the surface of the casting.

I'm wondering if Drags might have provided the wrong plug, as the invoice states "2150-57 Superseded to 2150-41" which I presume is the one provided.

Advice would be much appreciated.

It is a press fit . If the sizes are not exact it won't seal either. I can't see why you need it apart from it being a backup for the one in the bottom of the pump.Nev
