Re: KH pipes
Pic of pipes on my FH - note how tight they are to the bottom of the timing chest compared to Will's pic of his KHA.
(Not that this means much - the 650 timing chest might be much lower than the 500...) Bernie - should you need something to refer to (and if you've not got it already) there's an Ariel factory doc on setting up a sidecar for the swing-arm frame in the Doc Repository under 'Technical Papers'.

Re: KH pipes
Cheers Simon, found the sidecar mounting document, wonder how close the FH pies are to the KH, also wonder about BSA A7.

Re: KH pipes
BSA pipes push into the head rather than fitting over stubs.
I've not been able to measure things properly yet but a quick look
suggests that the stubs on an FH head are slightly further apart than
those on a KH head and that the inter-stub angle is lightly bigger on
an FH. Hopefully on Saturday I'll be able to get measuring . . .

Re: KH pipes
We have drawings for both ex pipes.
The angle of splay from the c/l is 20 for KH and 30 for FH.
Distance from ex stub to bottom run of pipe is KH 13-9/16 FH 14-1/2
Ex ports are the same diameter
The drawing should show that they are close but would take a large a hammer to make them fit.

Re: KH pipes
That much difference in port angle might be tricky to deal with (from experience of trying to get a Triumph pipe to fit my old NH many moons ago).
Somewhere I've got a KH head, I'll see if I can find it over the weekend and compare directly with my spare FH head (and also have a good look at the mis-fit on my FH pipes but I don't think the port angle itself can be as much as 10 degrees out).

Re: KH pipes
Best if someone can show an original which I believe has a quick kink in it right near the Port.. Not easy to replicate. Nev

Re: KH pipes
Nev, I think you are thinking of the plunger/rigid pipes that changed in style about 1950 I think when they added the kink you mention, before then they were more of a flowing line. I may have them round the wrong way, I cannot remember and have not checked it out.

Re: KH pipes
In the interests of being (un)helpful, here are photos of 1952 factory pipes replicated by Tony Pegler on his ISDT KHA.

Ahhh, that's more helpful than may be obvious Paul, I was wanting to run the silencer on the offside, to get the noise away from the intended 'chair' for 'herself'
