New member with a 45 WNG build

Head and magneto (wrong one in terms of advance direction but an anti clock one so can work with it.) I do have the rocker boxes and rockers, push rods and tubes, cam, cam followers, Crank, a piston but has a scraper ring. There is a lip at the top of the barrel so may have to go oversize but will see what it measures up as and if it is round.

Also the frame which I have just picked up from the blasters and put into primer.

Seems at present I am missing the following; correct mudguards, stays and stands, speedo, speedo drive, chain guards, and studs/bolts as required for the build.

Hopefully see some parts at Kempton this coming Saturday but more research is needed for sure!

Yes I thought the same, both sides are identical and it appears to be where the footrest pegs are thru-bolted. They sit perfectly in both positions with the key stud. Maybe they are pattern or modified in the past to give some additional adjustment or to fit different chain case?

Those holes are if you either use a tin primary chaincase or a aluminium chaincase, forgot which is which

Did the footrest move when they fitted the tin chain case then Vincent?

I think so yes.
It will show itself when you line up a tin case which hole you need.
I'll check today between a standard engine plate and one with these two holes.

As you can see the second hole sits higher.
The black engine plate comes from a '44 machine.
The other I dont know but fits a lot of singles from before and after WOII .
I assume that the later WNG's with the tin chaincase have the footrests slightly higher.

your machine is a '45 ? does it have XG or AP as framecode ?

Yes its a 45 frame with an XG 6**** number. It has had a dating certificate before but there seems to be no information about these later frame numbers.

Done a little painting this weekend so the frame and engine plates are done.

Also started "spot" welding the friction surfaces on the fork blade to build them up. It fits in my milling machine on the rotary table so should be able to get them smooth again.

I think you should have tin primaries and outer mag cover and no steering damper.Of course if you dont have these then use what you have until you find them.The engine plates are for later ones.

O.K.

your gear change lever is the correct one but it has been altered .
Not a problem as the standard lenght is suited to army boots, the longer it is the larger the travel.

The Amal in your picture has a Bing top ring, a known upgrade when the original thread on the carb housing gets worn.
The four studs in the cylinder barrel should be bolts.
With studs and nuts you can not get the cylinderhead over them when the engine is in the frame. (ehhhh...I think )

Thank you both, this is excellent information!!

I don't have any pressed steel primary cases nor timing case at the moment, but do have a steering damper and the frame appears to have the steering damper lug. I don't have the bakerlite knob though!

The list of missing parts is growing but still plenty to do in the meantime
