Wanted: Rear stand brackets (1958 Square Four)
Wanted: Rear stand brackets (1958 Square Four)
Dear fellow enthusiasts,
My friend Gary has acquired a 1958 Square (photo below). This has frame no. CNML 1737 and engine no. CGM 1681. The bike sat in a living room display for almost 40 years. It needs rear stand brackets (right and left side). The part numbers appear to be 5503-40 and 5504-40. Please let me know if you have these for sale. I would be happy to pay shipping costs to United States. I have gotten parts from UK and Australia without any problems via postal mail (even during Covid restrictions).

Re: Wanted: Rear stand brackets (1958 Square Four)
Hello,
I'm the guy that owns this bike. My name is Gary and I live in Minnesota USA. I could really use the rear stand as the side stand is pathetic, the bike leans over too much, its scary to see. In the picture it has a block of wood under the stand so its not too bad. I have all the parts for the rear stand except for those brackets. Any help finding them would be appreciated, also any suggestions on a better side stand would be helpful too.
This bike was "Restored" in the late 70's and as the legend goes the motor was overhauled at that time. A new speedometer was installed at that time and it shows 18 miles. I plan on starting to go over it within the next week to get an idea what I think I really have.
Thanks

Hello Gary, I made up this side stand -jiffy- from a (I think) BSA item + a unknown bracket, yes, thats not much of a help!
Although this is a single cilinder engine, the pictures might give you a idea what to make up and how to support it against turning on the frametube.

Any luck with the brackets? I may have one possibly two.
Re: Wanted: Rear stand brackets (1958 Square Four)
Thanks guy's for the responses. I have come to the conclusion that I will have to modify or fabricate the side stand to make it useful. And no I have not had any luck with the brackets. Either the right or left one would be great, both would be fabulous! Never having owned an Ariel before and a square 4 to boot I'm in a new world so all help is appreciated.

Thanks all, I've found the brackets that I need. I'll post on the 4 stroke forum with progress and questions on getting the beast going.
