Oil pressure gauge.

Post by KevinSandford »

Been offered an Ariel oil pressure gauge, the type where the needle pivots from the side rather than centrally. What years would this have been fitted to, and are there any reconditioners who could replace the less-than-perfect chrome bezel? Thanks.

These gauges are postwar up to 1953 for the Twins and Squares. Replacement bezels are available from AOMCC Club Spares Gauges - which is me - at £7.50p a time, plus postage. See Cheval for contact details.

Paul, would a 1950 single also use this type of gauge or the centre pivot type? I ask because I am looking for a gauge and would like to get the correct type if possible. Thanks in advance.

The 3 o'clock pivot gauges are all 100psi. Singles use the 25psi centre pivot gauges. These are available as AOMCC spares for club members but I am very short of them at present (I have a very few in stock) pending re-stocking shortly.

That's interesting because I just checked the Draganfly website, as I am without a parts list for 1950 and they suggest a 100psi gauge would be correct for singles from 1946 - 51? I expect a 25psi gauge would be fine for any single but it their website shows this was fitted from 1931 - 45. I wonder if there would be sufficient pressure going to the rockers to register meaningfully on the higher pressure gauge?
I have actually been a club member for a number of years, although you may not appreciate that because I haven't received the red name on the forum yet!
