Hi hoping some one my know the answer to my question, always had trouble with the solex on my sq4,it runs on the rich side.
I’ve put washers under the float valve, total 4mm, but it’s not a lot better. So I've set about making main jets and air correction jets, at the moment its fitted with a 120 main, and 150 air correction. I was going to try a 170 air correction to start with, as fitted to the MK2 as I am running hi comp pistons. If no improvement a 115 main jet. My question is does any one know the diameter of the hole in the jets or better still a supplier of the jets. Or any other tips that may help thanks in advance

Re: solex jets
First stop should be Burlen Ltd, here in the UK. I’ve had success on eBay, there are some Solex jet sellers and you can ask them if they have what you want. Last resort is to buy old Solex carbs and use the jets from that.
I believe the numbers given to main jets is related to the flow rate through the hole. I’ve never heard of home made main jets, but there’s always a first time.
I’ve heard that it’s better to err on the side of caution and have a Square 4 run slightly on the rich side, as too weak will make it overheat more than it already does.

Re: solex jets
Thanks, I don’t think Burlen do Solex. the jet for the later solex
Are not the same as the older jets, I believe the air correction jets
are one peace with the emulsion tube and the main jets are 6mm
thread the older are 5mm I think. There used to be a fellow who supplied
the jets, but I under stand he retired. And yes I think you are right
the bore relates to a flow rate, but if some one had the jets i was hoping
thay may try a drill in , and give the size.

Re: solex jets
Burlen do have Solex parts, on this page: http://zenithcarb.co.uk/jets.html is the following text: “Jets are still available for a wide variety of Zenith & Solex Carburettors. For more information on these parts please contact us with your vehicle & carburettor specifcation details so we can advise on the correct jets for your carburettor”.
