Colours of general fittings

Post by Si.Panter »

Hi all
Now I have my dating cert. for my '61-registered Leader. So, it left the factory Seal Grey and Ivory. Can anybody please tell me the subsequent correct colours/finishes for ;
Handlebars
Brake lever
Footrests
Rear mudguard
Thanks in advance
Regards
Simon

Hi Simon,

This may or may not help on colours .

When new my 64/65 Leader ( black and Ivory ) had black handle bar cover, ivory rear brake pedal/lever, black foot rests and the rear mudguard was in grey/green primer.
I think the colours changed over the years some Leaders had the handle bar cover in ivory and the rear guard in the same colour.

Hi Brian
Thank you. Do you know if the handlebars themselves should be just plain steel ?

Hi,

My Leader handle bars were plated, it looked like dull chrome rather than zinc or some other plate. The exhaust pipes had a similar finish as though they had been shot blasted and then chrome plated.

ps I think towards the end of the Leader production there were variations in finish/equipment.

Hi Simon, my 59 leader had admiralty grey where yours has ivory. This included the brake pedal, rear mudguard and footrests. My handlebars are plain alloy. I cleaned them up and sprayed them silver just to tidy up. I have changed to ivory, much nicer. The handlebar cover should also be ivory.

Hope this helps, Tony.
