Petrol tank cap seal material?
Hi folks,
My Huntmaster petrol cap has a slight leak and, on inspection, the original seal is hard and cracked. What material is best to make a replacement please? I know normal rubber will not withstand petrol. Neoprene? Silicone rubber sheet?
Suggestions please?
Cheers, Graham

If it is a 55 tank an MZ TS 250 cap seal fits and is easily available.

I've made them successfully out of a piece of old leather. Cheers, Bevan

Hi Adrie,
I'm having a 'dim' moment. Tell me more about this ALI of which you speak.

Viton rubber sheet is available. Cut a new ring of this using the original cork one as a template. Viton rubber is resistant to ethanol, whereas cork will eventually disintegrate in contact with ethanol in fuel. Google it.

Re: Petrol tank cap seal material?
Thanks guys! Will investigate the MZ tank cap seal first but mine's a '56 bike so I need to check if the '55 and 56 tank caps differ. If so then I'll look at Viton sheet, as I've had cork ones on other bikes which have not lasted very long. Thanks for all the help
