Thanks Ken. I think im starting to find my way around the box. Not actually having one in front of me to examine makes things more vague. Bits arriving soon hopefully

Panther never used the GB/B52 type Burman,in fact Panther h/wt production is alleged to have ended when the supply of BA Burmans ran out,and AMC wanted four times the price for loose AMC boxes.....P&M going broke in 1961 probably didnt help ,either..........................heres a "did you know"........there is a Burman Trust ,run by the last of the Burman family to manage the gearbox works.......I dont know if the trust assists poor and ailing gearboxes .

My 1931 M50 Panther (500cc heavyweight) has a three-speed Sturmey-Archer 240LS gearbox (which uses 'Gargoil' heavy oil - a bit like grease but it flows slowly so doesn't leave tracks).

I don't know when Panther moved to Burman boxes, I'll have to dig out my copy of Barry Jones' "The Panther Story" - but it isn't a quick read.

(Thinks . . Must get on with that restoration and get it on the road).

It seems I spelt it wrong - it should have read "Gargoyle" (makes even less sense now):

Its worse than that.........you can also get Mobil Glygoyle............has synthetic glycol base.

I think I caught a dose of Glygoyle in Hamburg once.... You get a topical cream for it. Bloody itchy, though!

Returning to the subject of gearboxes....
I've got a good G-1-5 shell arriving imminently and what seems to be the correct length mainshaft. Ive got the layshaft from a G-1-2 which I believe will also fit a GB7. Ive got a variety of cogs, gears and springs that have cleaned up and are serviceable, so hopefully progress is the order of the day. I still need to find the mainshaft sleeve/high gear 3639-52. and there are a couple of other gb7- specific parts listed in the Ariel Burman guide from Drags to find as well. As Sherlock Holmes would say, "The game's afoot"

There are one or two sleeve gears on ebay which you've probably seen Stewart, I can't tell the length.
