I am told resistor plug caps should always be used with electronic ignition systems. Is this correct and how would not using them affect the running of the Arrow engine? It would also be good to know the technical reason why they should be used.

if you got resistor plugs plugs with R in the letters you do not need resistor caps

I don't use resistor plugs or caps in old motorcycles.

You will certainly have problems if you use a Pazon system without resistor caps or plugs. I found out the hard way. Can't speak for other 'transistor' systems.
