Banbury Run

Great Banbury Run, as ever . A little in the warm side but better than the wet stuff. Here's a couple of pics from outside the George and Dragon at Shutford

After a year of work and only hearing my '27 B fire for the first time a week before the event, I made it over from France for my first Banbury. Did the C course and she chuffed up Sunrising with no Problems. Great, great event and probably the best thing I have ever done. Saw lots of Ariels too. Many thanks to everyone on this forum who helped with advice during the rebuild.

I went to this run 30 years ago, give or take, and as the bikes came in the announcer(might have been Bob Currie) said "Another Black Ariel, and another Black Ariel, and another ,and another.I think they re multiplying".I was only a spectator on a visit to England .

Hmmm...I wonder if I was riding one of those Black Ariels? I rode at Banbury between 1985 to 1989 inclusive, sometimes on a BSA V twin but also on a Model B....and then again in the early 2010s. It was Bob Currie announcing because, in 1985, he kindly signed my copy of his book "Motor Cycling in the 1930s" that I had bought in the autojumble:

Amazing.I had never heard the term "Black Ariel" before, and vintage Ariels generally were pretty rare in Oz at that time.
