The perils of linered cylinder barrels or how to loose your head

The SF31 Sloper is owned by an Italian member and was purchased as a running bike. This event occurred on the first day of the recent Sardina Rally. An excellent rally as usual with President Ariel Atzori at the helm. I was following the bike when the barrel let go just above the base flange. Parts of the barrel ,piston rings, push rods etc. exited the bike in all directions. The front mudguard took the brunt of the free floating head and barrel. Luckily the road at that point was straight and not one of the many hair pin bends we had been around. Inspection of the remains showed the barrel had a liner fitted that was too thick, leaving less than 1mm of original barrel material in places. Unfortunately without a complete strip down prior to using a newly acquired bike these sort of problems are impossible to detect. Buyer beware I guess.
Obviously the owner is now looking for parts to rebuild the engine.
The drive side crankcase is broken beyond repair and the barrel.
The head will need a weld repair to the exhaust stub.
Even the 3/8 head bolts are broken.

Looking for a pair of crankcases (any model Sloper) or at least a drive side half. I can match up an a mismatched pair.
A usable barrel +60 max.
Any help with parts will be greatly appreciated.

I cannot even see the barrel base in these photos....did that also end up on the road?

What a shame, the guy must have been a little disappointed to say the least.

There is a lot of heat color on the liner and barrel.Looks a bit more complicated than a simple breakage.John

Pretty dangerous situation. Far too common. People who do sleeving sleeve should be aware of the lack of strength in boring a cylinder out that far to take a sleeve. The sleeve itself will not carry any load . You need at least 3 mm remaining thickness and I wouldn't be too happy with that. Nev
