Ariel 1928 ohv twinport Restoraton
Hi i am new to the club and have joined due to obtaining a 1928 Ariel motorcycle, i have some limited skills in restoration but a motorcycle of this vintage is uncharted territory for me and i am in too minds whether or not i can restore the old girl back to her former glory. I have a real passion for vintage motorcycling and my last restoration was a 1951 speedtwin. I would love to get this Ariel back to the way it should be but i am going to need your expertise, experience and knowledge to get there.

Hello and welcom,
this is a picture of the 1928 modelbook, as you can see the head is differend and difficult to find, if your numbers are both 1928 it's worth restoring.

Re: Ariel 1928 ohv twinport Restoraton
Hi Shane, thats a very good start for a vintage Ariel, the problem is the parts are not readily available like for Triumphs, each model for each year was different some parts that you have on her are original and correct others are not, like Adrie says the top half of the engine is later, this will be a problem for you,the heads and rocker gear were for 28 only and the pushrod tubes were for 28 only, having said that you do have pre war head and rocker gear on it that is quite sought after, good to swap or sell. The good parts are the wheels forks tank gearbox bottom half of engine, frame also could be correct. it depends how original you want to make it,the parts are out there in the club amoungst the members but to get them is quite often hard, they don't like parting with them, good luck with it, it is a nice machine, were are you from by the way. I may be able to help with a few bits or put you in contact with a few people who may help, regards Andy.

Thank you for both replies, both frame and engine numbers are for 1928, i had a feeling the head may have been a little later, in saying that still runs fine but i am one that likes things in its correct format, so i can only try to get it there. I am in New Zealand. Thank you Andy any bits or contacts would be really helpful
Regards Shane

I would be inclined to restore what you have and just keep looking out for the right head, but not wait for it.
