What's it like? Well it is well stamped and the metal is a good thickness. It will need a bit of alteration to make it more like a 5647-39 but it is a good deal compared to the £70 for one from Drags. Just need to get a car version of the Lucas 1130 lamp (an original Ariel one went for £333 on Ebay in 2013!!)

Rear number plate from India
My 1939 Rh came with a late 1940's rear number plate. The restoration is on a budget and is not going to be brochure perfect. Found a period rear number plate on Ebay...£25 including postage from India
. Ordered it 7th Sept, arrived in UK on the 12th and delivered by Royal Mail on 15th. That's what I call great service. Came well packaged in a hand stitched cotton 'bag'. No extra's to pay (i.e VAT or post office surcharge).

Hi Alan,
Nice plate, but you do realize that it is absolutely the wrong one for a 39? The tail lamp sits on top of the plate, in a metal cut away. This plate is too wide and has the hole for the front mounted lamp. The correct plates are hard to come by because only Bruce Longman is banging them out and it could be a long wait.

Wade,
Yes I know its is technically wrong for 1939
but it is far better than the 1940's one that was on it. Drags list the correct one, 5647-39, but it is £70 and order only. I am undecided yet whether to modify it with a cut out for the 1130 lamp or just go with the MT110 which I already have. Whilst the bike left the factory in Sept 1939 it has pre rebound spring girder forks fitted and the smaller NH fuel and oil tank so, unless I throw a lot of money at it, it will never be technically 1939 correct. But it will be another Ariel that is back on the road

I am making them to but run out, so i will press an other 10 in 2 parts, (you have to weld the wing on your self), so it's easier to send, for 25 pounds.wade.edwards wrote:The correct plates are hard to come by because only Bruce Longman is banging them out and it could be a long wait.

Hi,
I know I'm about 6 years late to the forum, (Can't rush these things!) but if you haven't sold those '39 ariel number plates, I'll be keen for one. Happy to pay whatever postage to Australia.
