Hello
Some little steps forward with my Ariel 500 F 1929 model. Front fork is now almost ready for painting and I take
Lucas SS49 lamp shell under work next. Question : what is missing?
I have this reflector what is almost right one to this SS49 model but the bulb holder is broken.
If someone has nice original reflector , I would be interested to see some pictures of original structure.
I try to make new buld holder.
One more thing , what is the correct lenght(and shape) for lamp brackets ?
With Thanks

Re: Lucas SS49 bulb holder
I have just spent two hours scouring my house, workshop and garage for one of these
I *know* I had one that is either the same, or very similar.
I *know* this as my mate asked about it, between 3 and 6 months ago, but it was too small and has the wrong bulb (earlier) headlight fitting.
I even removed it from a box of headlamp bits, in the loft, to measure ..
At that point, the trail goes cold.
He didn't take it ... I cannot find it and I am certain I have not moved it on.
I may have thrown it.
If I do find it then I will post back .. I didn't want you to think that nobody cared

You could try this site as they do make complete replica SS49 headlamps and I wonder whether they might be able to supply individual parts?

Re: Lucas SS49 bulb holder
Hello folks
I know the feeling , parts are all in good order and right places but you are lost
.
Vintage-replica makes very nice parts , they sell the carrier for me and it was very well made.
There must be something wrong with me
, I like to spend hours and hours to find original part (Joseph Lucas this time)
or made it my self if possible.
The easy way is to buy new reflector (60€) all sensible people do so , I spend eternity to find "original" , mend it , get it silver plated (90€).
I find all this quite fun after all , maybe someone share this feeling

Yep, I'm the same. I spent hours welding new material into the worst rear mudguard in the world, just because it was an original one!
cheers
