Afternoon folks - I shall be decoking my '28 Model C while the magneto is away for its winter hols with Merv.
I know the rocker box is reputed to be a bit fragile - is there a 'recommended' sequence for loosening/tightening the 5 cylinder head bolts?
Also is there anything in particular to watch out for when removing the timing side cover, apart from making sure the camshaft doesn't come out with it?

5? cylinder head bolts. Anyhow it's a good idea always to loosen, and tighten ( particularly) the bolts in stages , more so if the head gasket is compressible. I always just lap the iron head OHV Ariels to the barrell face. You should remove the valves and be prepared to have to replace the valve guides and reseat the valves. ( or even insert the seats if worn.
You can keep pressure on the end of the camshaft to stop it coming out witk the cover. Best to have the valve pressure off the pushrods when doing this. There should be timing marks on the two gears anyhow. I don't trust them so check the timing with a disc if possible as well. Nev
