Singles Crankcase Mod?

Post by john.mitchell »

I have noticed a weird mod on a pair of crankcases I have. As can be seen from the photo, there are two small alloy pieces screwed to the bottom on the inside. They are slightly L shaped in section. But why ... There is no apparent damage.

They look like they may be oil scrapers but aren't oil scrapers usually found in wet sump engines ? Regards, Keith.

Someone has tried to fix a problem that Ariels experience when a high volume pump is fitted. The normal pick-up is not very effective at high rpm as the oill does not just fall to the bottom like you would expect it to do and you end up with oil leaks and flywheel drag with the excess oil building up. It can't do any harm and will do some good. ( Unless they can come loose). I would leave them there and anyone who is going to get higher horse power from these motors should put them or even larger ones to get the oil to the pick-up point more effectively. Nev
