Hello, just some quick update.

Moving forward with the fuel tank

I have some question in regards with the throttle slide. As the old one looked a bit shabby and wasted i got a new one, but the new one is really tight, i can barely push it inside the body... :?: :?:

Also, any clue what this seal is for? :?: :?: I've got several boxes with spares i have no idea where they go.

Albert, you can reduce the diameter of your new slide by very small amounts by applying some Silvo or Brasso fine metal polish.
Or use some already used 800 or finer grit abrasive paper.
As you go frequently clean the slide, apply a little 3 in 1 machine oil and do a test fit until the slide in the carb moves smoothly with no tight spots.

The body is probably distorted due to over tightening of the mounting nuts, ideally the body would be bored out and sleeved to standard or an oversize slide fitted. The seal is for a BSA gearbox and has no place on an Ariel or even in an Ariel owner's workshop.

Hi i'm starting to have a look at the gearbox and i think that seal could be the sleeve gear washer of the BA gearbox...

I dont see any seal present in current configuration.

Not having disassembled the bike myself is a real pain, as i can never be shure what has been done, what is missing... its all "half done"

Depending on the year of your gearbox there could be any of 3 set ups. This looks like one of the 2 later ones that did have a rubber seal but not the conventional modern one. However a modern seal can be fitted see https://draganfly.co.uk/product-categor ... a-gearbox/ scroll down to 'sprockets and seals'.

Hi Albert, when you draw the lines for the tank, consider also the thickness of the striplines which is something I didn’t do as i thought the painter will draw them outside of the perimeter we set but the way he painted was painting the tank first gold, then covering the striplines with 3M vinyl tape and painted red the rest. I have seen some more bikes like that.

Regarding the BSA gearbox seal that you have, i used one of those on my gearbox which is a prewar and it doesn’t get a rubber seal there. I did that because in Cyprus is somewhat impossible, at least for me, to get felt seals. I know this solution might upset some but it does the job. :D

This is how my tank looks like:
