Both these look dubrious to me or am I getting too suspicious in my old age?

They are both somewhat on the cheap side, in my view, but might be genuine.

From seller descriptions, I'd go for the second one .... 1952 Ariel Square Four Mk 1 the bike is a Export model was sent to Japan in 1952 then went to the USA in the 60s/70s then back the UK in 2000s.
The bike has been restored about two years ago by a chap in Wales I have loads of invoices for partsnew paint, new wheels with s/s spokes, new tyres and many more see photos.
Bike runs well only been out on it once and the clutch cable snaped when I was fitting the new cable the adjuster top lug on the gearbox broke off see photos the part that came off is in the photo of my hand.
I have had the bike for 5 months, I bought the bike because it was lighter than my Harley since I had a heart attack in FEB 2026 both of my bikes are now for sale you are very welcome to view at any time.
Because it has no working clutch the bike cannot be ridden but the engine runs.I have allowed in the price for the repair, as you will know these bikes usually sell for higher when everything works, but the repair should be easier for someone who knows what they are doing. The bike will be sold as seen, the price is firm and sold with manuals, V5 in my name.
07759152975 anytime.Tom .... the broken lug explains the low price for me.

The first one looks like a cut & paste from a book/magazine .... The Ariel Square Four Mk 2 is a classic motorcycle with a petrol engine, known for its distinctive square-shaped four-cylinder design. This iconic bike features the signature Ariel brand, making it a desirable choice for motorcycle enthusiasts looking for a piece of history with modern performance capabilities. With its stylish design and reliable petrol engine, the Ariel Square Four Mk 2 is a timeless addition to any motorcycle collection. This bike is built into a swinging arm frame, also fitted with alternator, twin leading front brake.

The description of the first one sounds like a typical eBay AI generated description. It's probably a legitimate sale, by someone using eBay's selling tools.
cheers
