S4 MkII exhaust downpipes wanted (rusty preferred!)

Post by JohnA »

I have acquired a lovely 1954 MkII Squariel, almost complete and in true 'barn find' condition. It is all very structurally sound but with surface rust on the chrome and tatty paintowrk. I intend to strip and rebuild the engine (and everything else) while retaining the barn find patina.

It came without any exhaust system. I am hoping someone who has restored a MkII will have replaced the rusty downpipes but not chucked them away, and will be willing to sell me them. Almost any condition will be fine as long as they're not really rotten. If you can help, please do let me know. I'm in Norfolk, for postage purposes. I could collect if within about 70 miles of Norwich. I'd be happy to pay a fair price plus postage.

Thanks.

Update: I now have a perfect set of suitably rusty downpipes, thanks to Bennet.

You can make good Pipes look old quite easily by letting sugar, tar, old oil shellac with fine dust and other things Burn onto the surface . You can always restore them by carefully scraping it of and repolishing Later it you change your Mind. There's also Rust Paint. Practice on something else to Get your technique right. You can do the same to the Engine and alloy if that's your thing. Done right, It should even protect the surfaces. Nev
