Sturmey Archer Kickstart Spring Cover

Post by simon.holyfield »

Another plea for help folks!

I really don't understand how this spring cover is supposed to fit - or supposed to stay in place. I understand that it's supposed to move with the spring, but what stops it moving along the spring?

The video shows what I mean:

I don't know about you but Charlie is missing a bit of the spring cover if this 1930 model A is anything to go by. The k/start is clearly different to Charlie's so this may just be someone else's solution to the problem. The parts book shows a spring cover like Charlie's, could it be that LS 263 is meant to fill the gap?

Charlie didn't understand what LS263 was!

On my way to Charlie's workshop to see if he has much brass in stock...

Thanks Roger!

PS whose bike is that?
cheers

It was Enrico Matteoni's when we photographed it for TAB, in 2008. Charlie can't spell Ariel!
