I've got myself a new project bike and a lathe and mill so want to make some of the parts myself. I know I can purchase some stuff and will do but I fancy doing a bit of machining.
I need two of the domed nuts that secure the swinging arm spindle 4988-54. Looking at the frame the base of these nuts must have a chamfer (there is no chamfered washer in the parts book). I've took a cast of the seat and it looks like 40 degrees but does anyone know what the angle actually is, and is a simple taper or something more complex. I can't fine the part in the drawings list unfortunately and any pics i have seen only show it from the domed end.
Cheers
Alan

Re: Swinging arm nuts
Terrible picture, but my son has pinched the FH and it's the best I can do at the moment!
If I recall correctly, the recess in the frame is hemispherical and the bottom of the nut matches.

Yup, just checked again and they are hemispherical. I don't think my machining skills are up to that so I'll get a pair from Acme.

Grind a tool from a bit of HSS? I use mine all the time, for bolt heads and such.alan.moore wrote: Wed Apr 15, 2026 3:23 pm Yup, just checked again and they are hemispherical. I don't think my machining skills are up to that so I'll get a pair from Acme.
