Wanted: Front wheel brake plate rim 4088-30

Post by Paul_B »

Hello,

I'm looking for a Brake plate rim (part no: 4088-30) for a front wheel hub on an early 1930's single Ariel (VG).

Draganfly used to do these but they're no longer available.

Thanks

Someone might spin one up for you and you can finish it off by filing the inner edge. Nev

You could try Overlander, Barry Bligh. While he is getting on and has cut back on a lot of what is on his site he may be able to help.

Some are chromed. Stainless may be a option. Barry specialises in SS. Rivet it on with small rivets., I haven't dealt with him for years Hope he's OK. Nev

Nev
A couple of years ago Barry had someone working in the business with him and I thought he was going to take over the business and Barry would retire. However, I just purchased some stainless fork seal holders from him and tried to also purchase stainless Ariel bend handlebars. He told me that he had no more 7/8 tube stock and would not be buying any more, but he still made 3 pair of fork seal holders for me at $70 a pair. He never mentioned any employee and indicated that he is winding down. I am amazed that he is actually still working. His collection of vintage European bikes is amazing.

Thank you for the replies everyone. As I'm in the UK, the nicely made Slovakian club rims look the closest and most promising. Thanks

Nev and David,
I bought several stainless parts from Barry many years ago, including one set of handlebars, 1” tube stretched to 7/8”, to suit Ariel. Couldn’t have been easy.

He was very engaging. I did send a couple iof examples from Canada for patterns.

Does Barry open his collection to the public?
I am planning to spend some time in Melbourne with family, (your summer), 2026/27. Dropping by his establishment would be highly entertaining.

Are you aware of vintage motorcycle events in southern Victoria that I could get to?
