removing top fork bush

Hi trying to remove the circlips holding top bush in. Is there a recomended wway or acertain tool. Trying to use small flat screwdriver. Any suggestions appreciated

Yes I use a small electrician's screwdriver. It needs to be a strong one. There is a groove that allows the screwdriver to get behind the clip to lever it up then move the screwdriver blade along to gradually lever out the clip. You might find it helpful to have a second screwdriver or pick to stop the clip going back into its groove. Then watch the clip fly across the room never to be found again

I forgot to add that the groove may be hidden by dirt and oil but it is there.

There is always a small gap between the ends of the circlip when it's installed.
It pays to make sure this gap doesn't coincide with the screwdriver groove.

I try to arrange it so that there is only about 1/4" or so of circlip beyond the groove.
This makes getting an end of the circlip out of its seat next time.

Originally there could well have been shims under the circlip to stop the top bush
floating up and down. The last pair of top bushes I fitted has to be relieved to allow
the circlips to fit snugly in the seats.

What's been said above is correct, you need quite a sturdy small screwdriver in the access groove. Here's a photo of mine during dis-assembly, note the circlip is not correctly positioned, the gap should be close to but not co-incident with the groove:
