HS / HT Speedo
HS / HT Speedo
Hello all,
Currently researching some details for my 56 HS and would like some advice.
Mine was one of a few MKI’s that was fitted with a speedometer.
I have found some literature which is from a Smiths catalogue but it does not seem to make sense if MK3’s were using the nacelle….
For UK spec according to Smith catalogue I have:
HS - 54/55 used S.467/3/L (full round)
HS - 56 on used S.659/L (half round)
Can anyone please advise?
Many thanks in advance.
Chris

Re: HS / HT Speedo
I can see that the 1956 parts book lists the same speedometer for all the singles, including the HS - but it identifies a different one (presumably the half round one) for the HT.
The 1954, pre nacelle parts book shows the same round speedo for all the bikes - but this doesn't include the HT, which I assume has a separate parts book.
I also see that the 1955 sales catalogue shows a D shaped speedo on an HT.

Hi Simes,Dave,
Many thanks for the replies.
As per parts books, couldn’t find an HT one on AOMCC database...
So as per yours and Parts listing (Excluding LH)…
‘54 Models all used S.467/3/L
‘55 All used S.467/3/L (Except HT which changed to S.659/L).
’56 All used S.467/195 (Except HT & HS I – if using, S.659/L). It is odd that a bike which was geared as standard to do 81mph would have a 70mph speedo??
’57 As above
’58 As above
’59 All used S.467/195/N (Except HT using S.659/N)
In 55, there were kits sold to Scandinavia (not sure where else) for converting HS MK I’s to III’s and vice versa.
Part of the MK 1 to MK 3 kit, was a 1950 Speedo bracket (Pt. 5213-50) for a round style speedo.
If anyone has one of these brackets and would be prepared to sell, I would be very keen to purchase.
Cheers,
Chris

Re: HS / HT Speedo
Sorry,
Being thick, my dispatch entry shows it as 120mph speedo, Smiths literature must be incorrect when referring to the 659/L - 'D' shaped for HS.
I'm still after the bracket, if anyones knows of, or has one.
Cheers,
Chris
