Update

The mag is good. At idle and kick speed there is a strong spark, easily and constantly jumping at least 1/4 inch on the test rig even at full retard. Scope shows a healthy signal, no winding breakdown. All earths are good, baseplate is bare metal.

I am running out if ideas, but two possible suggestions

Mag pinion could be slipping - Carefully lap the mag taper with the pinion with fine grinding paste.
Try a brand new spark plug.

Anything else before I resort to thrashing it mercilessly with a large branch - Basil Fawlty style.....

Hi

If you have a good spark yet no running I would suspect the timing, I bought a timing device to time a G15CSR, (the points are hidden behind the PCC), it makes things so easy, never looked back:

Timing - yes or lack of it. I have set the timing twice now, but no joy. Even if it was out a few degrees it should still run but I get zip. Hence the mag pinion may be slipping. Not sure about your device. The most difficult bit is still setting the piston to whatever BTDC and that device does not help in that. Setting the points is the easy bit, even with fag paper.
