plunger suspension

Post by I Rea »

reconditioning my plungers on mk2 sq 4. Have removed top and bottom nuts and shrouds. does the long center bolt screw into the bottom of the frame part of plunger body or is it just seized in place. any help appreciated.

Checking my notes, it looks like I used a clamp to pull the long bolt down to compress the spring and get the nut on. Must be a clearance hole.

This very poor quality picture, from Gumtree when my Mk1 was still in bits, shows the spring seat is cup shaped. Yours is probably seized in a cupful of rusty gunge.

This might help. The bottom nut has a sleeve that passes into the hole:

One of the nuts:

Have removed top and bottom nut. is the long stud screwed into bottom part of plunger body that is part of the frame or is it just rust and gunk holding it there.

Hi Ian
It'll be rust and gunk holding the centre stud in place. without the nuts in place it should pull out (upwards).
