Help wanted - a new club piston - 500cc single standard bore

Post by robert.clark »

Hi all,
I'm aware that there is a vacancy for a singles spares organiser.
Is there any possibility that someone has an unused new club piston tucked away as a spare. 500cc single standard bore.

The reason for this is I've just found a hairline crack on my original Hepolite piston which is roughly 3/4 inch long from the bottom of the skirt on the outside face, inside there is no obvious trace. Bottom of the skirt is best described as exactly 90 degrees to the gudgeon pin.

Just floating the idea , I could drill a crack arrester hole at the top of the crack and reuse.

What does the team think on either. Cheers Rob

Hi Robert, presuming you are a club member and receive the Cheval de Fer, on page 5 of the March edition the new 500cc piston made for the club are offered with contact details. Presumably this part alone is still available from the person mentioned. It does say 6.8-1 CR. Does this help you?

I think those Club VH pistons might be mis-described, they look like 7.5:1 to me.
(And did I once double check the reference number given and found it was the 7.5:1 number...?)

Paul and Simon many thanks for your input.

Just looked as the March issue, I bought two of these when they were first launched but assumed they came from club spares, not from Mark and I just glossed over the seller details. So thanks and I'm placing my order today!

I've planned to change the JP in the Rickman as the engine never felt quite right so I always planned to change it with a new club one (not very technical but sometimes you just have that feeling). After reading other members stories and despite having re-bored it to + 0.065 thou and after careful running in after 300 miles, on strip I found the front and rear skirt had picked up and almost half expected it anyway but not sufficiently to spoil the bore so all good.
That where my old used stock Hepolite piston comes in. That was going in until I spent an hour cleaning and dressing in detail that I spotted the hairline crack.

Like Simon I'm inclined to say 7.5 : 1 as the profile compares favourably with the JP equivalent and the old Hepolite, but there's no science applied but even if it's 6.5 ; 1 I can live with that.
A great decision by the club to go ahead with the new replacements.

Hope this is of use to other members. Rob
