I have just bought this 1959 Ariel Leader, good condition with "patina" Any infomation would be very welcome. I'm 72 and have several 70s and 80s muscle bikes plus a Vmax 1200 and a new BSA 650 Gold Star. I ride far too fast for my age but what the hell ! I have lusted after a Leader since I rode one in 1969. It was luxurious and smooth, I loved it. At last I own one
The only appearance on the club's register is an advert by a Tynesider on ebay this month, presumably the person you bought it from!
It was despatched to a dealer on the South coast in April 1959, strangely the registration is an Essex number from May 1961.

Thank you, excellent facts about the bike. Yes I got the bike from Jef (Tyneside). He advised me to contact the AOMCC. We swapped, I had a beautiful Suzuki GSX1100F but due the side effect of 18 months of chemo, I have peripheral neuropathy in my feet and found it difficult to ride it because of the sporty semi crouched riding position. We are both happy with this transaction.
