thanks for your replies, I hope it isn't the mag but we shall see, I shall go the east route for the time being and carry a toolbox of spare plugs! my friend has given me a B8HV to try, a plug he uses in his 500 iron '39 engine, again we shall see. kind regards

I must say, getting the magneto rebuilt has been great for starting, reliability and for peace of mind.

Wish I could say the same about the carburetter though!
cheers

I havn't used the W/ng for the past two months at least, she is going to Ireland again late August so I thought I would just se if she would fire up yesterday, primed the carb, primed the cylinder [as per Velo procedure] first prod and she kicked back, took a good few more where she kept kicking back but eventually when I got the A/R correct she up and ran without any problems, perishing tight wire advance most confusing, so we shall see, I have to say I find the position of the gear lever most uncomfortable and it seems impossible to lower as it will foul the foot rest, I have another with which I shall attempt to lower the forward part a tad, does anyone else have this problem? kind regards

I am returning to this topic having had problems with the W/ng on a Mosel jolly couple of months ago. About 18 months ago whilst again in Germany I handed my complete carb to Roger Gwynn for a refurbishment, subsequently returned minus a couple of bits but this is another story.
So fitted the same and the bike ran O.K for a while but having run most of the day having filled with petrol she just would not start and wouldn't the following day. The plug was dry when removed so I dropped a couple drips neat fuel in and she fired up and ran O.K. By the way there was a good spark at the time. The starting of the bike for the rest of the jolly was erratic and quite often difficult to start, however once going seemed O.K. The carb is a 276 as mentioned earlier, I have it off now and in the sonic cleaner, I have observed the main jet as marked 107 is this correct? I didn't think the main jet would make starting difficult but I am at a loss at present as to what has. I am not making comment about the refurbishment just want the old gal to run as she did prior to it or better. Any comments or suggestions please, by the way I shall get the mag rewound also. Kind regards [ sorry to go on so]
