I am recommissioning this 1946 NG. While cleaning the carb, I noticed this little hole in the flange. Please see the highlighted yellow circle. What is the purpose of this hole? It must weaken the fuel mixture. Should it be plugged?

I have seen these holes before, it is not a later addition but I don't know what they are for. Probably it is specific to a particular model. What is the number stamped on the flange, I should be able to find out what it was originally used on?

Hello Atul,
That carb number goes with a 1940-45 350cc Matchless. I don't know about the hole in the flange.

Don't think the little hole will make a lot of difference. Just tune the idle. The Military G3L has a smaller carb than the ARIEL from memory.. Nev
