Ariel Arrow / TZR250 crankshaft conversion

Post by drewdavis »

I am rebuilding my Ariel Arrow crankshaft and would like to use TZR 250 con rods and big ends , from a crank that I have acquired.
I will be fabricating a press, but what tonnage is required to separate/ assemble cranks?
Some machining will be required to fit the TZR crankpins into the Arrow crank wheels, just wondered if anyone on here has attempted this?

A forum search throws up a couple of mentions and possibly at least one person has previously considered using TZR 250 rods and pins.

That was 'alanbrown' some 7 years back. The username was last active 6 years ago but it might be worthwhile trying to contact him to see if he had any success.

(Also moved to the two-stroke section.)

Hi. I have pressed cranks with a 6 ton press but obviously etc etc. I'm just starting to get the parts for a crank rebuild and yes, we have a few options but the two main ones are as we know, are mill the crank webs to suite the 22mm crank pins or take the route of new stepped crank pins. I'm going (not me personally) for the new stepped pins. I friend of mine who is not too shabby in the tool room is going to machine a couple of pins. Obviously that will be at least 4. 😀
https://youtu.be/HhOjy58XzHY?si=UIQkjQXylh0oyms7 my engine is showing signs of needing a refresh and I want to catch it early as the pins may just need new rm125 rods and bearings. No up and down, but there is 3mm at the small end. <-->
