In some of my Ariels, various old tank coatings have dissolved. They’re either rubbery or hard chunks, depending on the coating. The only solution, as Roger wrote, is to remove them and apply a modern, ethanol-resistant coating.
By the way, I run all my Ariels on E10 without any problems.

On my 21V the oilfiller cap has a glass and the petrol cap is closed with a breathing hole.

During assembly, the sector must be fitted into the gearbox housing. Only then can you see both marks and align it correctly.

check which oil you're running.
It should have a high flamepoint.
For example and with good experiece I would recommend this MOTUL 3000 20W-50 4T 240.0 °C / 464.0 °F
